More than 5,000 construction workers left a temporary typhoon shelter at the Hangzhou International Expo Center in an orderly manner on Aug 10, taking their belongings and rubbish with them and leaving the venue clean.

The center had been converted overnight into a 20,000-square-meter emergency shelter as Typhoon Dolphin approached. It provided hot water, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, medical services and other facilities for workers evacuated from construction sites.

Before leaving, workers disposed of food containers, folded cardboard used as bedding and cleared away personal waste. One worker surnamed Jiang said he wanted to avoid adding to the workload of staff who had looked after them for two days.

Government workers, police officers, security personnel, cleaners and community workers remained on duty until the last evacuees departed.

It was another "leave no trace" moment at the venue, following a similar scene during a previous typhoon evacuation in July that drew widespread attention online.
