The Global Open-source AI Challenge, or GOAI, has attracted 12,279 teams and more than 14,000 developers from 91 countries and regions to Cloud Valley Center in Hangzhou's Xihu district, Zhejiang province. The district recorded 78.47 billion yuan ($11.69 billion) in core AI industry revenue in the first half of this year.

The competition reflects Hangzhou's growing open-source AI ecosystem. Academician Wang Jian, honorary chairman of the Hangzhou Open-Source Artificial Intelligence Foundation, said open source now means more than sharing code; it also involves making resources such as computing power and AI capabilities more accessible to developers worldwide.

Xihu district has built an ecosystem that integrates models, open-source platforms, research, and applications. Alibaba Cloud provides open-source model infrastructure, ModelScope connects 29 million developers, and Ant Group develops open-sources AI models, while companies such as DEEP Robotics apply open-source technologies to commercial products.

The ecosystem is anchored by Cloud Valley Center. The center has signed agreements with 190 companies and gathered more than 180 one-person-company entrepreneurs. Its shared workspace has also attracted AI community organizations and incubated hundreds of projects.

By combining competitions, open-source communities, entrepreneurship support, and industrial applications, Xihu district seeks to turn global developer traffic into lasting innovation and business growth.
