China's first national AI pilot facility dedicated to culture and tourism, the National Culture Tourism Artificial Intelligence Pilot Scale Facility, opened in Gongshu district, Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on Sept 28. The facility unveiled a series of new models, datasets, and application scenarios at its opening ceremony and first ecosystem partners conference.
Five AI models were released, including the Wenrun large language model, trained on cultural heritage records, museum archives, and historical literature, and a model designed to inspect and diagnose damage to ancient buildings. The latter was trained on more than 300,000 annotated records and can identify more than 10 types of damage with an accuracy exceeding 87 percent.
Four high-quality datasets were also launched, including one covering more than 40,000 ancient buildings nationwide and another covering public cultural spaces across 22 provinces. They will support applications ranging from digital exhibitions and cultural tourism services to AIGC content creation.
Five application scenarios were unveiled, including an AI travel agent, an intelligent inbound tourism service platform, and AI-powered media production systems. The inbound tourism platform integrates multilingual itinerary planning, real-time translation and navigation, and travel services for international visitors.
The facility is designed to connect AI technologies with real-world cultural and tourism applications, lowering barriers for businesses to test and deploy AI solutions. It will also support AI use in cultural heritage protection, tourism services, cultural content creation, and international communication.
