Shangri-La Group has launched its new ultra-luxury brand, Shangri-La Signatures, with the opening of its first boutique property, The Silk Lakehouse, Hangzhou.

Branded in Chinese as Hangzhou Shangri-La Hotel · Silk Lakehouse, the hotel is located at No 78 Beishan Road in the core area of the West Lake, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Inspired by the residences of historic silk merchants, the property blends Hangzhou's refined cultural heritage with contemporary design. Belgian designer Gert Voorjans and Spanish designer Lazaro Rosa-Violan have combined Chinese aesthetics with maximalist elements to create an immersive retreat overlooking the lake's ink-wash scenery.

The hotel features 68 guestrooms and suites, each framing panoramic views of the West Lake's waters and hills. Suite interiors include mural-style walls depicting Zhejiang's landscapes, while spacious bathrooms offer window-facing bathtubs with lake views, paired with lounge daybeds to evoke an urban resort ambience.

Dining venues have been fully reimagined, and a new terrace bar will open as part of the upgrade. Intricate detailing, vintage textures and bold color contrasts define the refreshed culinary spaces, positioning the Silk Lakehouse as a distinctive addition to Hangzhou's luxury hospitality landscape.
