A special exhibition culled from A Comprehensive Collection of Ancient Chinese Paintings opened on March 19 at Macao University of Science and Technology, highlighting the intersection of art, science and culture.
Titled Painting as a Path to Knowledge, the exhibition presents selected works from the larger collection, a national-level cultural project compiled by Zhejiang University and the Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration. The collection brings together 12,405 ancient Chinese paintings from 263 museums and institutions worldwide, spanning materials such as silk, paper and linen.
It is organized into sections including craftsmanship, medical knowledge and architectural techniques, as well as the role the archive plays in supporting modern scientific research. Through these themes, visitors gain insight not only into artistic expression but also into the ancient Chinese understanding of nature, materials and technology.
The exhibition, jointly organized by institutions including Zhejiang University and Macao partners, will run through March 28.
