Hangzhou has a new international star. Following the rise in fame of its elevated rose corridors and street tulips, a giant topiary pig covered in succulents has captured global attention.

The installation, located at the intersection of Wensan and Xueyuan Roads, was recently highlighted on social media by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, who praised it as a "creative masterpiece" hidden within the bustling city.

Dubbed the "Fortune Pig", the sculpture features over 88,000 succulent plants of 20 different varieties. This marks the first time the city has pivoted from traditional flowers to succulents for such a large-scale display.

Officials from the Xihu district urban management bureau noted that succulents were chosen not only for their lush, colorful aesthetic but also for their sustainability. They require significantly less water and minimal pruning compared to seasonal flowers, making the installation both beautiful and eco-friendly.

The "Succulent Pig" is part of Hangzhou's urban aesthetics initiative, designed to weave nature and art into daily commutes. The city continues to redefine urban living with a touch of Hangzhou-style romance, blending meticulous city management with a warm, human touch.
