East China's Zhejiang province held a Chinese Song singing competition for international students at Hangzhou Dianzi University on April 11, bringing together more than 250 students from 41 universities across the province.
The event featured participants from countries such as Russia, Italy, South Africa, Kazakhstan, and Malaysia, creating a vibrant multicultural showcase of Chinese-language music.
The competition consisted of preliminary and final rounds. In the preliminaries, 184 performances were divided into six groups. Highlights included a dramatic rendition of The Courtesan (Chi Ling) blending opera and pop styles, and a multinational quartet performing Beginning of Spring, which received high praise from judges for its emotional interpretation and vocal harmony.
In the finals, finalists performed a wide range of songs including folk classics, pop ballads, and Chinese-style compositions. A contestant from Kyrgyzstan delivered an energetic performance of Song of the Earth, while a multinational group performed the classic Blue and White Porcelain, showcasing the elegance of traditional Chinese aesthetics.
Judges evaluated performances based on pronunciation, vocal technique, stage presence, and interpretation. Winners were awarded first, second, and third prizes, with the award ceremony to be held at a related cultural gala.
