A themed seal carving exhibition celebrating the 12th anniversary of the Grand Canal's UNESCO World Heritage inscription opened on June 22 at the China Knife, Scissors and Sword Museum in Hangzhou.

The exhibition is jointly presented by Xiling Seal Society and Hangzhou's cultural authorities, with participation from 15 seal art societies along the Grand Canal. The exhibition will run until July 21 before touring cities along the canal through December.

Featuring more than 60 seal carving works, historical calligraphy, ancient maps and archival materials, the exhibition explores the canal's 2,000-year history, from its role in grain transport to its modern cultural significance.

Combining the UNESCO World Heritage Grand Canal with the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Chinese seal carving, the exhibition includes three sections — seal imprints, ink art and visual records — offering visitors a unique journey through the canal's cultural legacy.

Interactive activities such as stamp-collecting challenges, traditional seal rubbing and lacquer fan making will also be available, bringing the ancient canal culture closer to the public and showcasing how traditional art continues to thrive in modern times.
