The 2026 Silk Road Week opened at the China National Silk Museum in Hangzhou on June 24, bringing together cultural heritage from across the ancient trade route under the theme "Harmony in Diversity, for a Shared Future".
This year's event features Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region as the guest province and Morocco as the guest country. More than 200 cultural relics from 14 museums and institutions in Zhejiang and Xinjiang are on display in the flagship exhibition — Silver Mountain Moon: Gaochang and Kucha on the Silk Road — highlighting the prosperity of trade, cultural exchange and governance along the Silk Road during the Han and Tang dynasties (206 BC-220, 618-907).
Among the highlights is a piece of hemp cloth woven in Lanxi, Zhejiang, over 1,000 years ago. Originally sent to the imperial court as tax and later transported to the Western Regions, it was unearthed from an ancient tomb in Turpan and has now returned to Zhejiang for the exhibition.
The event also features a Moroccan caftan exhibition showcasing more than 50 sets of traditional and contemporary garments, alongside academic forums, cultural workshops, livestreams and educational programs.
Organized by China's National Cultural Heritage Administration and the Zhejiang Provincial Government, Silk Road Week will conclude later this year with a series of cultural exchange activities in Morocco, promoting Chinese silk art and Silk Road heritage to international audiences.
