The Jade Cong: A Chronicle exhibition has opened at the Liangzhu Museum in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, bringing together 124 jade cong (cylindrical tube encased in a square prism) and cong-shaped artifacts from 39 institutions across 14 provinces and overseas collections.

Organized into four sections — "Origins," "Convergence," "Continuity," and "Transformation" — the exhibition traces the development of jade cong from their emergence during the Liangzhu culture to their spread across regions and later evolution in form and function.

The exhibits highlight the diverse origins and shared characteristics of Chinese civilization, as well as its capacity to integrate different cultures. By following the development of jade cong over time, the exhibition presents a 5,000-year continuum of China and its enduring cultural heritage.

The exhibition, which marks the 90th anniversary of the discovery of the Liangzhu archaeological site, will run until Nov 29.
