Wang Zifei became the first Chinese athlete at this year's Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games to set an Asian record, scoring 636.8 points in the women's 10m air rifle qualification on Sept 20.

Born in 2007 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, Wang is currently ranked No 1 in the world, according to the International Shooting Sport Federation. She first became interested in shooting in primary school after watching members of her school's shooting team practice.

Wang made a breakthrough in 2025, winning three consecutive World Cup titles in the women's 10m air rifle and setting world and world junior records. She rose to No 1 in the world rankings in July that year.

The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games are Wang's first Asian Games, with her qualification score surpassing the previous Asian record of 634.1 set at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.
